Hope and Healing: Launch of RHAP’s Policy Brief on GBV against women and its impact on their mental health

Join RHAP in commemorating Women’s Month, on Tuesday the 13th of August 2024 from 11:00-13:00, where we will be launching our latest policy brief on Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

Gender-Based Violence violates many women’s basic human rights and severely impacts their mental health, increasing the risk of depression, post-traumatic stress disorder and feelings of worthlessness.

Women from rural areas in South Africa are more impacted by certain types of GBV, and yet they have very little access to mental health services. For these reasons it is crucial to understand why GBV occurs and what can be done to prevent it. It is also essential to strengthen current programs and improve access to mental health services within the district health system, particularly those geared towards GBV survivors.

In our policy brief, Hope and Healing: A Pathway to Mental Wellness for Women Survivors of GBV, RHAP explores these issues in more detail and makes recommendations to address GBV in our society and strengthen mental health services, particularly in rural areas.

At the webinar, RHAP will host discussions on strategies to empower women, enhance availability of mental health services and strengthen community support systems for women facing GBV.
